Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
The Pilot Sport A/S Plus is the Ultra High Performance All-Season tire member of Michelin’s Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires that represents the evolution of the Pilot Sport A/S. Developed for the drivers of high-end sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus is designed to combine enhanced all-weather performance, wet grip and treadwear along with year-round traction, including in light snow.
The Pilot Sport A/S Plus features Michelin’s TriFusion Compound that molds three different tread compounds side-by-side using the precise capabilities of Michelin’s “C3M” tire manufacturing process. The tread compound in both shoulders improves dry handling, the compound used between the shoulders and center rib enhances wet, snow and cold weather traction while the compound used in the center rib boosts wet traction. These three compounds are molded into a directional tread design (shared with Pilot Sport A/S tires) that features a continuous circumferential center rib (to provide communicative road feel and reduce noise on dry roads), high angle directional tread blocks (to sharpen steering response and dry road handling) along with circumferential and high angle lateral grooves (to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction). The tire’s internal structure includes two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts under the tread area reinforced with Michelin’s “Filament At Zero” (FAZ) technology that spirally wraps an individual strand of polyamide across the entire tread (similar to the way fishing line is wound onto a fishing reel) to increase treadwear and ride comfort while providing high speed durability and predictable handling.
NOTE: Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires can be mixed with earlier Pilot Sport A/S tires in axle pairs as long as the Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires are installed on the rear axle.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup
Pilot Sport Cup Track & Competition DOT radials benefit from the same attention to detail that has earned Michelin repeated successes at major endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The Pilot Sport Cup was developed for enthusiasts who participate in track events, as well as for serious drivers on the road. Pilot Sport Cup tires are not intended to be driven on extremely wet roads with standing water where there is the risk of hydroplaning, or in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
The Pilot Sport Cup features a dual zone, side-by-side tread compound with the outboard compound optimized for dry traction and handling while the inboard compound is focused on wet traction. These tread compounds are molded into an asymmetric tread design that features a massive outer shoulder rib to further enhance steering response and cornering stability while circumferential grooves and independent tread blocks on the tread design’s inboard portion enhance wet traction.
NOTE: Original Equipment Pilot Sport Cup + (Plus) tires for BMW and N-Spec tires for Porsche applications feature a slightly different tread design with a thin circumferential groove around the outboard shoulder.
The Pilot Sport Cup’s internal structure includes two full-width, steel belts reinforced with Michelin’s Banded At Zero (BAZ) technology to stiffen the tread area and help prevent contact area distortion during aggressive acceleration, cornering, braking and high-speed use.
The dimensions of traditional front and rear companion sizes were developed to avoid diameter differences that can adversely affect electronic driver’s aids and all-wheel drive systems.
Pilot Sport Cup tires are molded with 6/32″ of tread depth in their grooves and are left unshaved for use on damp tracks. While Pilot Sport Cup tires do not require shaving for dry track use, their lap time performance will improve slightly if shaved to approximately 4/32″ deep tread to begin competitive road racing/track use in dry conditions, however this will sacrifice significant tread life.
Caution: Pilot Sport Cup tires are not recommended for high-speed driving on extremely wet roads/tracks with standing water where there is the risk of hydroplaning. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.

Developed for drivers who care about how tire technology enhances their vehicle’s performance and safety, Pilot Super Sport tires expand the Max Performance Summer tire performance envelope by delivering durability, handling and traction while increasing tread life.
Building on the development of racing tires designed to carry Prototype and GT class cars to endurance race victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and Road Atlanta’s Petit Lemans, Pilot Super Sport tires are designed to deliver consistent performance and longevity by blending Max Performance driving characteristics with extended tread wear.
While the importance of tire treadwear in endurance racing may not be immediately apparent, Michelin tires set records during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2010. One of the 2010 LMP Class leaders completed 46 consecutive laps on one set of tires with an average pace just 1% off of the pole position qualifying time. That’s almost 400 racing miles on one set of tires at an average speed of 150 mph.
Additionally the overall winner used just 11 sets of tires to cover a record 3,362 miles, averaging nearly 140 mph and almost 300 racing miles per set of tires. That represented almost a 25% wear improvement compared to just one year earlier where the overall winner needed 14 sets of tires to cover 3,235 miles. By developing longer wearing racing tires without sacrificing performance, Michelin tires allowed the teams to run record race paces while converting some of the time previously spent changing tires in the pits into productive time covering more miles on the track.
While Pilot Super Sport tires are designed to allow sports cars, sporty coupes, performance sedans and supercars to achieve their full potential in dry and wet conditions, like all summer tires they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
